Integrated Classroom Model
IncludEd has established integrated classrooms throughout the New York metropolitan area. An integrated classroom generally has a mixture of children with special needs and children who don’t have disabilities or developmental challenges. These classes are team-taught by pairs of teachers, one of whom is a regular education teacher and one who is a certified Special Education teacher.
The teams work together to create a seamless atmosphere in which disability is invisible; the children all learn and make gains together. Strategies for assisting the special needs children in the classroom are integrated into the day-to-day activities for the entire class. Integrated classrooms have proven to be a highly successful model resulting in a high ratio of transitions for special education students to regular kindergarten classrooms when leaving Head Start programs.

The principle underlying all of IncludEd’s services is that the child should receive needed services in the least restrictive environment possible. IncludEd provides an array of services and employs two key approaches. Ideally, IncludEd’s staff will “push in” to a classroom to provide services to the child in his or her normal classroom environment. Often, however, it’s necessary to “pull out”, taking the child from the classroom for a therapy session in an environment more conducive to achieving necessary goals. Consideration is given as to which approach will produce the best results for the child.
IncludEd employs over 200 staff members. All of IncludEd’s special education teachers, counselors and therapists are highly qualified, well-educated professionals who possess all of the appropriate licensure and/or certification for their specialties. IncludEd is widely regarded for the quality of our personnel and the positive results they achieve with the children we serve.
